Query string functionality for containers

Added functionality for arbitrary query strings to be passed into container
functions. Additionally a minor typo correction in the README. Added unit
tests for query string functionality.

Add links for release notes tool

The automated release note tool expects to find links to the bug
tracker, documentation, and source using a specific regex. This change
adds the links using the expected format so they are found and included
in the release announcements.
