The XenAPI driver is actually doing work to make that all possible There is a Cinder spec here: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/361512/ And a Neutron spec here: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/309416 They are both re-working how Nova communicates API wise. Focusing mostly on the model states that need to be in sync. the os-vif and os-brick ideas are evolving the "local" interface between nova-compute an the other projects. Roughly, the neutron and cinder plugins are able to own the code, and having a strongly versioned interface using o.vo where possible. We have discussed ideas around a short circuit path or similar, to avoid the agent being triggered only via an API "dance", where that is possible.
