maybe I should mention that the point of sync is to synchronize the status of ironic, inspector and the filter driver w/r the ports.

The goal of update_filter is to apply the ports to the filter the driver encapsulates (like call iptables or dump dnsmasq config files or talk to neutron/ironic to reconfigure ports).
