Lance Bragstad 7955900281 Add examples and clarification around scope_types 
When we initially implemented the scope_types attribute, we included
some documentation but we never explicitly described how to use
scope_types, what was officially supported, or why the attribute is
important.

This commit attempts to add documentation that clarifies those areas.
