Patch Set 2:

I'm not familiar with the specific areas where this would help (or not help), but would it hurt to have this turned on by default?

My understanding is that it would not archive the newest row. Leaving a single row behind and possibly preventing auto-increment mishaps seems like a reasonable tradeoff?
